BACKGROUND

I am currently working towards accreditation with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) after completing an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology and previously a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science with Psychology. Having played sport all my life and been a Scottish Football Association qualified referee for 5 years, I understand the pressures of competitive sport at all levels and the challenges that it brings on a daily basis. Based in Livingston, Scotland I am in a very central location, making it easy to work with clients from Edinburgh to Glasgow and anywhere in between.

I currently work with Hamilton Academical Ladies Premier League football team, Burn It Bootcamp and individual athletes, ensuring that their needs are being met and that I am helping them get closer to achieving their full potential as people and as performers. Each of these clients brings a wide variety of backgrounds, settings and issues and ensures that I am never too comfortable with the support I provide and that I am always being challenged. My support is tailored for individuals; as individuals are unique my support is unique to them. My role within these settings can be educational in nature, it can be organizational, it can be purely performance enhancing or it can be more counselling in nature, proving that versatility is required in my role as a sport and exercise performance consultant.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is one of a client-centred, humanistic nature. I ensure that I am meeting the needs of the client and that the process is client-led at all times. Furthermore, I work with individuals on the basis that they are a person first and an athlete second. Sport psychology is not a quick fix and my work looks to gain an understanding of the root issue before attempting to resolve it, as opposed to solely treating the symptoms. It’s like having a cold – you can use a tissue to blow your nose and deal with one of the symptoms but unless you treat the root cause, you will still have a cold.
